I was talking to my boyfriend about secondary school life and the topic of how I picked up the cello was brought up.
I haven’t shared this before—when I was 11, my mummy brought me to the cinemas to watch a film called Hilary and Jackie (based on a true story). It was a recommendation by my then piano teacher.
The cellist in the film, Jacqueline du Pré, more affectionately known as Jackie, is the reason why I chose to play the cello over a violin (which many had insisted on me to pick up).
There I sat in one of the theatres of Shaw Lido, awestruck and captivated by her. That feeling I had in 1998 is still stuck within me.
Do find some time to watch this film if you haven’t. =)
